Christian Dierckxsens is a Belgian Landscape Architect and Urban Designer with over 25 years of international experience in master planning, landscape, and urban design across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Working within multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure-led developments, including engineer-led reclamation and rail projects, he has developed a strong expertise at the intersection of transport systems, density, and public realm.
His career has been closely aligned with Transit-Oriented Development, exploring how infrastructure investment can move beyond connectivity to generate long-term urban, social, and economic value. Christian advocates for an integrated approach in which transport nodes evolve into thriving, mixed-use communities supported by meaningful social infrastructure and high-quality open spaces. He believes that successful TODs are not defined by density alone, but by their ability to create safe, comfortable, and inclusive environments that are economically viable for developers and operators while genuinely valued by the public.
Having lived and practiced in Hong Kong for the past 24 years, Christian has experienced firsthand how one of the world’s most recognized rail-based development models integrates transport, property, and public space into a coherent urban system. From the front seat as a designer shaping public realm, he has observed how station precincts can catalyze vibrant districts and signature civic spaces. This long-standing exposure to Hong Kong’s operational and development model continues to inform his perspective on balancing density, liveability, and social infrastructure in TODs.
He is currently Technical Director for Landscape and Urban Design at Townland Consultants and is an active member of ILAM, HKIUD, BALA, HKILA, and IFLA APR
