Norliza Hashim is the Chief Executive of URBANICE Malaysia, a Centre of Excellence for Community Well-being and Urban Sustainability, under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia; where she leads a team that focus on the implementation of sustainable urbanisation policies in cities and regions through the Malaysia SDG Cities program and shared knowledge platforms, development of innovative urban community-based solutions and through collaborative partnerships.
A strong advocate for sustainability, Norliza is an Adjunct Professor to 2 universities : the International Islamic University Malaysia at the Kulliyah of Architecture Environmental Design, and the Univerity Technology of MARA at the College of Built Environment. Where she provides guidance on sustainable development agenda and the development of future planning directions for the universities.
She is a professional Town Planner and her experience of 30 years covers a wide spectrum of the planning discipline and she has developed master plans and blueprints that has contributed towards Malaysia’s nation building. She is the Founder of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group, a master planning firm that has been instrumental in nation building projects. She had also led a team of experts to develop the Low Carbon Cities Assessment Framework for the Ministry of Environment and Water and is the Adviser to the Malaysian Institute of Planner’s Low Carbon Cities and Sustainability Centre. She was President of Malaysia Institute of Planners and was the Secretary General of the Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning and Housing, an accredited organisation of the UN-Habitat.
Norliza sits on the Leadership Council for Sustainable Development Solutions Network Malaysia, a Fellow Member of Institute MASA and several organisations related to sustainability as her passion lies in promoting the sustainability agenda and in providing innovative solutions that contributes towards better quality of life and built environment for cities and nations.
