Murugason R. Thangaratnam is a widely recognised thought leader in cybersecurity, AI governance, and digital transformation. A law graduate from Bond University, Australia, with professional certifications in cyber defence strategy and digital transformation, he currently serves as the Cyber Defence and Intelligence Lead at Equanimity Group. In this role, he advises on complex strategic risks, including AI-driven cyber threats, geopolitical exposure, and operational crises. He also shares his extensive expertise with the next generation as an Adjunct Professor of Practice at UNIMY.
An active contributor to Malaysia’s national digital framework, Murugason served on the Protem Committee on Data Governance for the Digital Ministry, helping develop the National Data Governance Framework and Playbook. Additionally, he was a member of Bursa Malaysia’s exclusive Regulatory and Security Controls Working Group, which outlined key cyber resilience enhancements for the country’s stockbroking ecosystem.
Murugason holds several prominent advisory roles across the technology landscape, serving as a Digital Expert Panel member at MDEC, an Honorary Advisor to EdTech pioneer LTT Global, and an Advisor to both CyberDSA and the blockchain-based sustainability platform CI TECH. An accomplished international speaker who has addressed over 50 conferences globally, his sustained contributions to the ecosystem earned him the Outstanding Leadership Award 2023 in Dubai and the Cyber Security Appreciation Award 2025 at the Malaysian Cyber Security Awards.
